Few more hours and the red carpet will be rolled out anew. For a movie buff like me, this is the day to look forward to. The annual Academy Awards! Now on it’s 82nd year, the roster of nominees sparks interest in me way before they announced them all in public. Early January, I have seen some of the films which I heard will do great in the race. And true enough, most are well deserved. This year has got to be my lucky year, I’d love to presume, because I have seen most of the nominated films. Having said that, here are my predictions as to who I think should bag the most coveted trophy of the film industry.
For Actress in a Leading Role, Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side
She is unbelievable in this film. Her best performance to date. I am glad that finally she is now a serious Oscar-caliber actress. Not that I don’t like her comedic side, I mean, that’s the Sandra that we all learned to love. But seeing her moving performance in this movie is just amazing.
For Actor in a Leading Role, Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart
I would’ve rooted for Clooney in this category. Glad I was able to catch it last minute, and indeed, Jeff Bridges will get this. Brilliant acting! Very believable, poignant, and A+ performance. Bad Blake all the way!
For Actress in a Supporting Role, Mo’Nique for Precious
From an extremely revealing film comes an equally searing acting performance of Mo’Nique. Hers was one of the most prolific and 8-magnitude-ish amazingly depicted acting I’ve seen in recent time. My vote is, without a doubt, for her and her alone. Well, minus that disgusting hairy legs, please.
For Actor in a Supporting Role, Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds
I just finished watching Basterds and I love it, to the bits! And what a performance from Waltz. Nobody else deserves to get this award but him. Superb acting, loved the accent, the gun shots, the gestapo looking bandits. I say BOW!
For Best Picture, The Hurt Locker
I’d have to give this to Kathryn Bigelow’s intense-filled film The Hurt Locker. And yes, the Best Director award should go to her as well. Even James Cameron is giving way. This movie will rock your world, and it will do the same tomorrow at the awards show proper.
Ok, I can sleep now. I am so stoked and overly excited for tomorrow! Good thing my leave was approved, I can watch the live telecast. I do hope I’d be able to get this right this year. Last year, the only ones I got right was Kate Winslet for Best Actress and Slumdog Millionaire for Best Picture. So, I guess I’ll just see you all at the red carpet?! 🙂
