I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant to see this movie. Mainly because it stars popular actors. So I went in yesterday to watch it without expecting anything. And good thing I didn’t, because it turned out to be one of the best I’ve seen so far this year, or one of the best indie films I’ve seen, that’s more like it. What I liked the most is how the story was paced. Just right, no exaggerations, no confusing plots. Not only it focuses on religion or faith, but also looked more on family, Filipino traditions and beliefs, and a bit on politics. It will make you think about good between evil, the division of the church and state, what’s right and what’s wrong, and basically of being hopeful.
The twist on the latter part was a bit given, although some people in the cinema still blurted out “Ah, kaya pala!”, but it served as a significant part of the movie. The cast is rock solid – from the lead roles of Coco Martin and Alessandra De Rossi, to supporting roles of Angel Aquino, Irma Adlawan and Anita Linda (minus the pansit). 3.5 out of 5 stars.
This one I enjoyed watching the most. It tells us the story of four friends, and how their friendship was tested when one died, revealing some little secrets to another through a diary. The characters and the story is a bit typical, specially for Filipinos, but they gave it a different approach, which worked. Amusing, funny, heavy in the heart at times, but definitely not boring. It’s not everyday you’d get to see and hear top caliber actresses raising voice and cussing at each other. But I believe that’s what made this film true, in its simple yet profound extent.
The character I liked most was Sandy, played by Agot Isidro, because she may be loud and flashy but has a caring heart for her friends. I couldn’t imagine any other Sandy except Ms. Isidro. I also fancied Iza Calzado even more in this film. I am already a fan since her Te Amo days, and still believes she’s one of the best actresses we have in the industry. Judy Ann Santos and Janice De Belen were equally good, and proved that they are indeed seasoned performers. All of them didn’t disappoint. 3.5 out of 5 stars.
