This album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans by Bruno Mars, is currently on repeat in my iPod. And I must say, it’s a great one! I love it! This post won’t be a review about it, though. I just can’t help but rave. I can’t wait to get a hold of a copy, too. Ok yes, I just downloaded the album. But upon hearing the rest of the tracks, it’ll be worth buying I tell ya! Bruno Mars is such an amazing artist. Anything from him I’d dig. The moment I heard him in Nothin’ On You and Billionaire, I knew he’d make it big. And when Just The Way You Are was released, the rest, as they say, is history. He is the biggest music act today; having his songs and albums topping music charts and being the most downloaded. I’d like to think he’s the man of the hour. He is at the top of the world. And, if what I’ve read is true, he’s of Filipino descent.
One good sign of being a great artist, aside from the screaming fans and number one songs, is when people start to cover your song but still sounding good and never losing its essence and true meaning. Just The Way You Are is one solid proof. Check out You Tube and you’ll find gazillion of renditions of the song by amateur and even famous singers and groups. Here are some I like so far:
By Legaci (which I believe is doing back-up vocals for Justin Bieber)
Here’s an acoustic version from pretty sisters Janice & Sonya aka Jayeslee
This one’s an interestingly good jazzy version, from AJ Rafael
And here’s an instrumental piano version by Terry Chen. Go ahead and sing along!
There are a lot more out there but these are just the few ones I enjoyed the most and stood out from the rest, I think. A friend posted the one by Legaci on my Facebook wall, and I remember commenting that I’d still love the song whatever version it is. And true enough, after checking some on You Tube, it’s still one heck of a song. Listening to all those different versions made me love it even more.
So I guess we’ll be seeing and hearing more from our man Bruno Mars in the coming years. I really hope he visits the Philippines soon. I won’t hesitate to buy front row tickets (if I have enough money LOL!). Yes, I am now officially a fan. 🙂
